New kid on the block: Boys joins SCI for summer internship

Posted

Hi! My name is Nick Boys and I have just started my summer internship here at the Seward County Independent. I am currently a student at Concordia University due to embark on my (super) senior year in the fall. As you may have guessed, I am a journalism major and I am also a part of the baseball team on campus.

I am originally from Brisbane, Australia (a long way from home, I know), and moved to the United States in the fall of 2015 to pursue baseball and a degree. I’ve studied and played previously in Iowa and Kentucky before finding my way here to Seward. I have become very fond of my new home over the last year, and I’m looking forward to finding some of the people and stories that make this town tick.

I am excited to experience Seward in the Summer for the first time, as hopefully we are now finally finished with all the cold weather for the year. I’ve heard all the buzz about the Fourth of July, so I’m definitely looking forward to experiencing that first hand.

I am also excited and grateful to be working at The Independent this summer to gain some hands-on experience in the field. Writing is a passion of mine, and one I’m sure will only grow throughout this opportunity. While sports has been a large focus of my previous writing, I’m excited to write about a variety of events and topics in a variety of styles during my time here.

So, if you see a well dressed young man riding a bicycle around, it’s probably me on my way to get the latest scoop. Don’t be afraid to honk or wave, I promise I’m friendly, although my one hand riding might still be a little suspect. Luckily for me, I’ve got all summer to work on it.

See you around town!
