New Edward Jones office nears completion

The move-in date is getting closer for John Owens.

The Edward Jones Investments representative will open his new office at 445 N. Sixth Street in Seward, hopefully, at the end of July or the beginning of August as soon as construction is complete.

The new office building, across from Amigos on Highway 15, is the site of a house that was torn down.

“It had been vacant for several years,” Owens said.

Construction on the new office began in April.

Owens said Edward Jones has expanded over the past few years in Seward. The company now has three financial advisors in town.

Advisor Brady Johnson works out of an office located at 116 S. Fourth St., along with branch office administrator Chas Bluhm.

When Advisor Adam Greenquist joined the company in 2016, he and his branch office administrator, Ann Koch, filled the rest of the space at the 212 S. First St. office, where Owens and branch office administrators Linda Wentink and Joan Payzant also work.

Now, it’s close quarters on First Street.

“That was one of the main reasons for moving as we’ve continued to grow our office,” Owens said. “We all needed more space.”

Owens, Wentink and Payzant will move to the new location, and the First Street office likely will be renovated to better accommodate clients and staff.

Owens said the new office, built by general contractor Manzito and designed by Clark Architects Collaborative, will have about 2,000 square feet.

“That’s roughly double the space,” Owens said, adding that several local contractors are participating in construction of the new building, which Owens will own.

“I’ve never owned this building (on First Street), and I always thought it would be appealing or interesting to own my own building,” he said.

Edward Jones has been in business for almost 100 years, Owens said. It has been part of the Seward community for 33 years, 32 of which have been in its current location.

Owens has been with the company since 2004.

“We’re excited to be members of the community and have been for a long time,” he said. “We were fortunate to find a location where we can expand and continue to improve our businesses.”

Each advisor has his own business separate from the others, Owens explained, but they all work within a network of 17,000 Edward Jones financial advisors across the United States. Their home office is in St. Louis.

“We are employees or partners of Edward Jones. We run our own practice, getting to know local clients and individuals,” Owens said. “We’re all trying to figure out how to serve our individual clients and develop strategies to help them meet their own goals.”

He said the services the company offers will remain the same with the move, but this office will be more accessible for people with disabilities.
