The role of the nurse practitioner (NP) was showcased Nov. 12–18, as NPs across the country celebrated more than 50 years of practice during National NP Week. In the United States, this group of health care professionals number approximately 234,000 with an additional 23,000 NP students graduating each year. Events were held in communities around the country acquainting local citizens with the roles of NPs.
Friend Community Healthcare System recognized Chantel Collier, FNP-C, for all of her hard work and dedication to care for patients. As a nurse practitioner, Collier is able to offer a unique combination of nursing and health care services to patients. Focusing not only on diagnosing and managing acute and chronic illnesses, NPs integrate health promotion, disease prevention, counseling and patient education to help patients understand their complete health picture.
In a population that is aging, with baby boomers becoming seniors in growing numbers over the next 10 years, having choices about health care providers will become even more important. National NP Week brings visibility to the role of the NP, helping patients make wise choices when selecting their health care provider.
“Friend Community Healthcare System is proud to have Chantel on staff at our facility, caring for patients in the clinic, hospital and emergency room,” Chad Thompson, president and CEO said. “She has been a great addition to our team and to our community.”
