Two runners-up led the Crete Cardinal track and field teams at the state track meet May 17 and 18 in Omaha.
“Our student-athletes competed very hard at the state meet and represented the community, school, and their families very well,” Coach Paulvince Obuon said.
Carter Reckling jumped a season-best 6-7 in the high jump to finish second in Class B. Zachary Turner was the runner-up in the Class B 110-meter hurdles, finishing in 14.65 seconds.
Trevor Malone picked up fourth in the triple jump with a season-best jump of 44-11.5. Teammate Vincent Lauenroth finished eighth with a jump of 43-10.25, also a season best.
Jaedon Lothrop brought home fifth place in the shot put with a toss of 51-8.75, his best throw of the season.
Zachary Fye placed sixth in the 300-meter hurdles with a finals time of 40.95 seconds.
The 4x400-meter relay team of Reckling, Fye, Lauenroth and Turner rounded out the team scoring with a seventh-place finish in 3:29.18.
In the girls’ competition, the 4x100-meter relay team of Izzy Eltze, Hannah Newton, Karlee Henning and Ellie Allen raced to sixth place in 50.64 seconds.
Newton tied for seventh in the Class B high jump at 5-2, and Morgan Maly picked up seventh in the discus with a throw of 126-10.
