Jessica R. Maxson, 40, of Lincoln was struck by an Amtrak passenger train on the BNSF Railway track west of Boswell Avenue in Crete on June 5 at 4:24 a.m.

Maxson was walking on the tracks going west, facing the eastbound train.

According a press release sent out by Crete Police Chief Steve Hensel, the Amtrak train officials comforted Maxson on the north side of the tracks until first responders arrived.

“Crete Volunteer Fire and Rescue departments transported her to the Crete Area Medical Center, and StarCare flew her to Lincoln for additional care,” the press release said.

Hensel said Maxson was alone while she was walking.

“We do not know why Ms. Maxson was on the tracks or why she didn’t move out of the way as the train approached her,” Crete Police Chief Hensel said. “Our investigation will continue.”
