Joshua L. Berney

Joshua Lee Berney, age 31, went to the Lord June 4, 2019, at his home in Palmyra, Missouri. He was born Dec. 8, 1987, to Christopher Berney and Lynn Dooley in Moberly, Missouri. Josh attended St. Pius and Westran schools, graduating from Westran in 2006. He studied turf management at Linn State Technical College and worked at several golf courses following that.
He was a member of Westran Ramblers 4-H Club, beginning his interest in shooting sports, mainly archery. As a member of the Missouri 4-H archery team, he participated in the 2002 4-H Shooting Sports Nationals at the NRA Whittington Center in Raton, New Mexico. He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, where as a teen he belonged to the bell choir. Josh was a people pleaser and he made friends wherever he went.
In 2012, he married Elizabeth Byrd and to this union, his son, Kyler Wayne Berney, was born. Josh adored his son. He followed Nebraska Cornhusker football and other spectator sports. Josh enjoyed golfing, fishing, especially trout fishing, archery, winning many trophies, and spending time with family and friends, especially his fiancée, Samantha Brown, son, Kyler and stepson, Erik.
He was preceded in death by his mother and his grandparents, Lumir and Lillian Cerveny.
Josh is survived by his parents, Gary and Karen Hunt of Moberly, Missouri; fiancée, Samantha Brown of Palmyra, Missouri, son, Kyler Berney of Jefferson City, Missouri; stepson, Erik Fender of Palmyra, Missouri; family members, Chris Berney of Forrest City, Arkansas, James Berney (fiancée, Tonya Roddy) of Holts Summit, Missouri, Doug Berney (Vicki) of Kansas City, Kansas, Theresa Hyatt (Stephen) of Moberly, Missouri, Stacey Ingersoll of Moberly, Missouri, Lindsay Overfelt (Matt) of Moberly, Missouri, nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.
A celebration of Josh’s life will be held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, June 12, at Pathway Memorial Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 11:30 a.m. until 1 p.m. Inurnment for Joshua, as well as for his grandmother, Lillian Cerveny, will be at 10 a.m. on July 13, 2019, in the Wilber Czech Cemetery in Wilber, with the Rev. Travis Panning officiating. Memorial contributions in Josh’s honor are suggested to the family in care of Pathway Memorial Funeral Home, P.O.
