Spongebob comes to MHS stage

The Milford High Drama Department presents "The Spongebob Musical" Friday and Saturday, May 3 and 4, at MHS. Friday night's performance starts at 7 p.m., with Saturday shows at 3 and 7 p.m. Tickets are available through the MHS office, (402) 761-2525, and at the door based on availability.

Voter registration deadline May 3

Friday, May 3, is the deadline for voters to register in person for the upcoming election. The Seward County Clerk’s office will be open until 6 p.m. on Friday to accommodate registration.

Jays fall in subdistrict final

The Seward girls' soccer team couldn't stay with Norris in the subdistrict final April 30, losing 5-0.

CU hosts part of GPAC baseball tournament

Concordia University baseball will host its pod for the 2024 Great Plains Athletic Conference tournament at Plum Creek Park starting today, May 2. Briar Cliff and Midland will take the field at 3 p.m., with CU to play Mount Marty at 6 p.m. Games continue Friday, May 3, at noon, 3 and 6 p.m. On Saturday, May 4, competition starts at noon with an if-necessary game at 3 p.m.

CU softball season ends in GPAC tourney

The No. 4 seed Concordia Softball team made the trek to the campus of Dordt University, joining seven other teams to compete in the GPAC championships on Wednesday (May 1). Needing extra innings in the opening round, No. 5 seed Morningside found two runs in the eighth taking a 3-1 win in the pitchers’ duel. No. 8 seed Mount Marty came out hot, scored all six of its runs in the first, and held onto a 6-3 victory over the Bulldogs.
Head Coach Brock Culler’s squad finishes its season with a 22-24 overall record and an improved 13-9 showing in the conference.
Eurich needed one strikeout in the seventh inning of the Mount Marty contest to solidify the single-season strikeout record in Concordia Softball history. The Gretna native had two outs to claim the record for herself, but she claimed her third strike and the 194th K in her 2023-24 campaign.

District baseball starts

High school baseball teams start their postseasons today in the opening round of districts. Seward will travel to Bennington to play Blair at 5:30 p.m. Malcolm will host the winner of Maxwell/St. Pat's vs Tekamah-Herman at 6 p.m. Crete-Milford will play Beatrice in Beatrice at 6:30 p.m. Centennial will play Douglas County West at 6:30 p.m. at Sherman Field in Lincoln. Finals will be tomorrow at times to be announced.

EVENTS

FRIDAY and SATURDAY - Dog show

The Seward County Kennel Club will host the annual two-day AKC All-Breed Dog Show, Obedience and Rally Trials at the Seward County fairgrounds from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday and Saturday, May 3 and 4. FastCat trials will be Friday, Saturday and Sunday at the fairgrounds. The public is welcome, no admission charge.

Her funeral service will be Saturday, May 4, at 10:30 a.m. at Immanuel Lutheran Church - Middle Creek, rural Seward. Committal will be at Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery (Middle Creek)- Seward. SALTZMAN, Leona

Visitation for Leona M. Saltzman will be Friday, May 3, from 1-8:30 p.m. at Zabka-Perdue Funeral Home in Seward. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Graveside services and interment will be Saturday, May 4, at 11 a.m. at Milford Mennonite Cemetery, 2592 Pioneers Road, Milford.
