Eagles third at home invite

Although they took two different routes to get there, both the Milford boys’ and girls’ track teams finished third place at the Milford Boosters Invite April 14.

Led by freshman Drake Burton, who won gold medals in the 100- and 200-meter dashes and silver medals in the pole vault and long jump, the boys’ team used several top finishes to score 92 points, just behind runner-up David City, which had 99.5.

Wilber-Clatonia scored 129.5 to earn the boys’ team trophy.

“That was a heck of a day (for Burton),” Head Coach Marty Hingst said. “For him to be doing what he’s done as a freshman shows great promise.”

Ty Masco also won a pair of golds for the Eagles, easily winning both the 1,600-meter and 3,200-meter runs, and Alex Delgado won silver in both hurdle events.  The Eagles also picked up second-place points in the 3,200-meter relay, featuring Jacob Bitterman, Zach Danekas, Trenton Gabehart and Hunter Jensen.

The girls’ team, on the other hand, relied more on depth en route to its third place finish,

The only events the Milford girls team won were the 3,200-meter relay, featuring Alex Kenney, Savanah Bontrager, Morgan Baack and Jensen Meyer, and the 100-meter dash won by Tyra Aschoff, but Hayley Bogue ran a close second and Sara Trojan earned sixth place points in that event as well.

The Eagles also placed multiple people and earned extra points in the long jump (Bogue fourth and Paris TeBrink, fifth; the 1,600-meter run (Kenney, third, and Bontrager, fifth); and the 3,200-meter run (Hannah Compton, third, and Ashlea Heyen, fourth).

All in all, Hingst said, it was a fairly decent day for both teams and the meet went off with very few problems.

“I’d like to thank our boosters and everyone else who helped run the meet. They did a heck of a job,” he said.

The Milford track teams were scheduled to compete at the Centennial Invitational on April 21, and won’t compete again until their conference track meet on May 2, which has been moved from Centennial to David City due to construction at Centennial High School.
