Day one done at state track

Day one of the Nebraska State Track and Field Championships is in the books, and area athletes turned in some good performances.

Seward athletes in the finals tomorrow are Kyle Glandt, 100- and 200-meter dashes; Cale Wagner, 100-meter dash and 300-meter hurdles; Mika Brees, 100- and 200-meter dashes; from Malcolm, Antonio Flores in the 110-meter high hurdles; and from Exeter-Milligan, Maitlyn Thomsen in the 100-meter hurdles.

Earning medals today were Ty Masco of Milford, third in the 3,200-meter run in 9:46.44; the Seward girls’ 4x800-meter relay, seventh in 10:04.43; Stephen Yamber of Centennial, tie for seventh in the high jump at 6-0 and seventh in the triple jump at 43-8; Tanner Barth of Centennial, third in the shot put at 52-9.5; Courtney Sandell of Malcolm, fifth in the pole vault at 10-0; Hannah Tomes of Centennial, tie for seventh in the pole vault at 9-6; Dustin Axline of Exeter-Milligan, sixth in the pole vault at 13-0; Corey Bird of Dorchester, seventh in the high jump at 6-0; The Exeter-Milligan boys’ 4x800-meter relay team, eighth in 8:42.65; and the Friend girls’ 4x800-meter relay team, sixth in 10:17.44.

Field events begin at 8:30 a.m. Saturday, with running events to start at 9:30 a.m.
