Today in Seward County

NET show stops in Seward: Area residents are invited to attend three events in Seward today as part of NET’s “On the Road” trip. Morning activities will begin at 8 a.m. with a Town Talk at the Olde Glory Theatre, 348 Jackson Street. NET leadership will welcome local residents for coffee and an informal discussion to get acquainted and learn more about the Seward community. A live radio program will follow at 9 a.m. when NET’s “Friday LIVE” arts and entertainment show broadcasts from the Olde Glory Theatre. NET’s PBS KIDS family event is scheduled at 10 a.m. at the Seward Civic Center, 616 Bradford Street. Families are invited to watch the new movie “Ocean Commotion” from the PBS KIDS series “Nature Cat” and participate in crafty make-and-take activities. Listening session: Humanities Nebraska Executive Director Chris Sommerich will be convening a listening session at the Nebraska National Guard Museum at 3:30 p.m. today for anyone who would like to share their thoughts on community needs in history, culture and other areas of the humanities. This public input will help inform Humanities Nebraska as the organization creates a new strategic plan to guide programming for the next several years.
Humanities Nebraska is a sponsor of this week's WWI Chautauqua, and the listening session will be immediately following the "Winning Hearts and Minds" program on the Chautauqua schedule from 2-3 pm Friday at the museum. Speaker to discuss war opposition: Ted Kachel, one of the presenters at the Chautauqua, will give a program called “Opposition to the Great War” at the Seward Senior Center today at 12:30 p.m. Kachel portrays William Jennings Bryan.

Brass to play in Seward: The Nebraska Brass, a brass quintet, will present “Brass Menagerie: A Musical Safari” tonight at 7:30 p.m. at Faith Lutheran Church in Seward. Garland alumni invited to luncheon: People who attended Garland High School are invited to attend a luncheon starting at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 17, at the Garland Legion Hall. Those interested should call Lodeen Koranda at (402) 643-2309. The cost for the lunch is $12.50 each.

Now’s the chance to see Saltdogs: The Seward Senior Center will sponsor an evening at the Lincoln Saltdogs with transportation provided by Seward County Public Transit Saturday, June 17. The transit vehicle will leave Seward at 5:30 p.m., with the game starting at 6:45 p.m. at Haymarket Park in Lincoln. The trip price is $14.95. Call SCPT at (402) 643-4067 to reserve a seat.

Municipal band to play: The Seward Municipal Band’s next concert is Sunday, June 18, at 7 p.m. at Seward High School, part of the Chautauqua celebration.
