On Friday, April 14, Seward County Deputies with the assistance of the Seward Police Department served search warrants at two separate locations in Seward city limits regarding burglaries that occurred in early through late January, 2017. Among the items reported as stolen are numerous firearms. The searches yielded stolen property as well as altered firearms and ultimately ended in the arrests of one male juvenile and two young adults. After the arrests a third search was conducted at another Seward residence. This search resulted in seizure of ammunition relating to the burglaries.

Cody Shafer, 20, of Seward, NE was arrested and is being charged with burglary, theft by unlawful taking, possession of stolen property, defacing firearms and possession of defaced firearms. Kashia Graves, 18, of Seward, NE was arrested and is being charged with burglary, theft by unlawful taking and possession of stolen property.

An arrest was also made regarding this case in early February of an additional juvenile male. The Seward County Sheriff’s Office is still investigating this case as there are still numerous firearms missing. Seward County Commissioners: At yesterday's meeting, the Seward County Commissioners continued discussion on several justice center topics, including expanding office space for the county treasurer, creating storage space for various offices and move-in dates.

Seward City Council: At last night's meeting, the Seward City Council approved the mayor's appointment of Greg Butcher as the city administrator. Butcher will begin working at the city on May 3.

Library hosts midweek movie: The community is invited to take an afternoon break and relax in front of the big screen in the lower level conference room at Seward Memorial Library. Waffleman comes for fundraiser: Legion Post 171 will host a fundraiser with the Waffleman Wednesday, April 19, from 4:30-7:30 p.m. at the Milford Fire Hall. A free-will donation will go toward the Boys Scouts, scholarships, Cub Scouts and Junior Law Cadet program.

Sesquicentennial Committee to meet: The monthly meeting of the Seward Sesquicentennial Committee will be today at the Seward Memorial Library at 7 p.m. The meeting is open to the public to coordinate and plan the 150th birthday activities for the 150th birthday for the City of Seward, along with Nebraska’s Sesquicentennial and Seward County’s 150th Birthday. Baseball: Tuesday's Seward High game at Mount Michael Benedictine was canceled because of field conditions.

Track: Centennial's track was finished on Monday, just in time for Tuesday's track meet. The Malcolm girls' 4x800-meter relay team came from behind to beat Heartland for the first race win on the new surface.
