Last night, Seward County residents celebrated the Chautauqua Kick-off at Bottle Rocket Brewery in Seward. The theme of this year's chautauqua, which is scheduled to take place June 15-18, will be World War l: Legacies of a Forgotten War. See more photos in this week's SCI.

Cemetery Association to meet: The Beaver Crossing Cemetery Association will hold its annual meeting tonight at 7 p.m. at the Beaver Crossing City Hall. Everyone is welcome.

Speaker to present Melancholia: Cameron Anderson will present “Prone to Ponder: Reading Albrecht Durer’s Melancholia I” as part of the 500th Reformation Anniversary Lecture Series at 7 p.m. tonight in the Weller Chapel Auditorium on the campus of Concordia University. The presentation is free and open to the public. Additional information about the 500th Reformation Anniversary and Anderson’s lecture is available online at reformation.cune.edu.

Post Office to celebrate 150th: The Seward Post Office will celebrate its 150th birthday with an open house from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. tomorrow, April 4. A special award presentation will be held at 10 a.m., and cake will be served during the open house. 

Story time offered for 3-and-under: Seward Memorial Library will offer three mornings of Story Time for children who are younger than 3. Come on April 4, 5 and 6 at 10 a.m. for 30 minutes of interactive play, stories, and songs. Children must be accompanied by an adult. No registration is required.

Osten Observatory to host shows: The Osten Observatory at Concordia University will be open Tuesday, April 4, through Thursday, April 6, at 8:30 p.m. to view stars and planets. Dr. Robert Hermann, physics professor, will explain what can be seen that night and will answer questions. The observatory is at the northeast corner of Concordia’s campus on East Hillcrest Drive. Viewing will be canceled if the sky is cloudy or if there are excessive winds. 

Blood drive planned at Concordia: The American Red Cross will host a blood drive Tuesday, April 4, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Janzow Campus Center on the Concordia University campus in Seward. Visit redcrossblood.org/RapidPass for more information.

Concert features Concordia students: Concordia University will hold its Spring Honor Recital at 7 p.m., Tuesday, April 4, in the Recital Hall of the Music Center on campus. Students audition for an opportunity to perform in the biannual event showcasing top music students as selected by Concordia’s music faculty. This spring 10 student musicians were selected to perform.

Health fair chance for checks: Memorial Health Care Systems in Seward will host its annual health fair, “Celebrate Health,” Wednesday, April 5, from 5:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Seward County Ag Pavilion. Pre-registration is required for blood chemistry tests and should be done by Wednesday, March 29. Forms are available at www.mhcs.us or at the Family Medical Centers. Classes available for childbirth education: Seward Memorial Health Care Systems will host a four-week class beginning Wednesday, April 5, from 6-9 p.m. in the lower level Vahle Conference Room at the Seward Family Medical Center to prepare parents for labor, delivery, postpartum and newborn care.
