Lucille N. Fiala was born May 1, 1929, in Seward to Mike and Agnes (Makovicka) Hotovy. She died Jan. 31, 2016, in David City at age 86. Lucille married Joseph Fiala on Jan. 13, 1948. She was a devoted farmer’s wife, mother and grandmother. She was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Ulysses and a member of the Altar Society. She coordinated funeral dinners for many years.

Lucille is survived by her husband, Joseph of Ulysses; eight children and their spouses, Carmelita Fiala of David City, Suzanne (Larry) Kratochvil of Ulysses, Gregory (Peggy) Fiala and Theresa (Darrell) Aerts, all of David City, Barbara (Chip) Greene of Omaha, Mary Beth (Pat) Roh of Abie, Robert (Janette) Fiala of Ulysses and Corinne (Lee) Schmit of Pleasant Dale; 36 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Marie Hotovy of Seward; and nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be from 1 to 4:30 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 4, 2016, at Zabka Funeral Home in Seward and will resume from 6 to 7 p.m. at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Ulysses, followed by a rosary service at 7 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 5, at the church, with Father Michael Stec as celebrant. A graveside service and interment will be at Ulysses Catholic Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to Aquinas Catholic Schools or to the Fiala family for future designation.
