Nancy was born on Dec. 20, 1961, to Paul and Noelle (Anderson) Swanson in Grand Island. She was a graduate of Centura High School near Cairo. She attended the University of Nebraska Medical Center for her bachelor of science in nursing degree and received her registered nurse credentials. In 2004, Nancy was accepted into the elite Master of Science Nurse Anesthesia Program and received her diploma from Kansas University Medical Center in December 2006. Nancy was a self-employed Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist and enjoyed working at many different hospitals both with the patients she helped and the staff that she came to consider as close friends.
On Oct. 17, 1985, Nancy was united in marriage to T.J. McAndrew at First Baptist Church in Alliance. In her free time, she enjoyed family gatherings/family vacations, traveling, her many horses and dogs, Husker football and volleyball, cheering against the Broncos and spending lots of time with her grandchildren. Her sweet and sensitive spirit was extended to all she met and she always went above and beyond to take care of those around her. She always had a listening ear for those who needed it and gave wise advice on life and medical issues. Nancy passed away on Dec. 31, 2015, in Beaver Crossing at the age of 54.
She is survived by her husband, T.J. McAndrew of Beaver Crossing; son, Jamie (Stephanie) McAndrew of Lincoln; daughter, Ashleigh (Justin) Browning of Lincoln; grandchildren, Madisyn Daisy and Callan James; parents, Paul and Noelle Swanson of St. Paul; brother, Russ (Janelle) Swanson of St. Paul; sisters, Lori (Steve) Vaughn of Grand Island and Tammy (Steve) Zurbuchen of Lincoln; mother-in-law, Daisy McAndrew of Alliance; sister-in-law, Gillian Salvador of Alliance; brothers-in-law, James (Gracia) McAndrew of Johnston, Iowa, Gerry (Christy) McAndrew of Omaha and Kevin McAndrew of Yuma, Arizona; and many nieces and nephews.
Nancy was preceded in death by her son, John Thomas McAndrew, and father-in-law, James J. McAndrew.
The McAndrew family will greet friends from 6:30 to 8 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 8, 2016, at Volzke Funeral Home. A private family service will be held with the Rev. Greg Loy officiating. Memorial donations may be made to the McAndrew family.
