Turbine to be completed before 2018

Construction on Seward’s wind turbine has begun.

Matt Robinette of Bluestem Energy Solutions spoke to the Seward City Council Oct. 3 to give an update on the project’s progress.

He said workers are doing cement work, and foundation work will take three to four weeks.

Robinette added that parts of the turbine will be delivered starting in December, which means the turbine could be providing the city with electricity by the end of the year.

“That’s a pretty aggressive schedule, so hopefully the weather cooperates,” Robinette said.

The turbine will be located on 350th Road, just south of Highway 34. It will provide 1.7 megawatts to the city, which is less than the 10 percent of allowed use of renewable energy through the city’s contract with the Nebraska Public Power District.
