During the Seward County Commissioners’ Aug. 8 meeting, the board:

• received an annual report from the Seward County Chamber and Development Partnership. The organization also submitted a request for contribution from the county.

Jonathan Jank, president and CEO of SCCDP, said SCCDP is asking for a 10 percent increase from last year, which would increase its contribution from $50,000 in the 2016-17 fiscal year to $55,000 in the 2017-18 fiscal year.

Jank said the scope of SCCDP’s services is increasing and it needs funds to continue to grow Seward County.

• discussed miscellaneous districts’ taxing authority with County Clerk Sherry Schweitzer.

Schweitzer said Seward County has four of these districts whose levy is included in the county’s levy authority. They are the J Precinct Cemetery, the Pleasant Dale Cemetery, the Ag Society and the fire district.

While the cemeteries’ requests were not large, Schweitzer said the Ag Society requested $588,000 and the fire district requested $694,000.

She told the commissioners, by law, they must tell these districts what they will receive by Sept. 1.

The board decided to ask representatives from those two districts to attend a meeting to discuss how they plan to use those funds.
