Seward city quick hits

During the Seward City Council’s Nov. 7 meeting, the board:

• approved a building moving application from Blue River Pet Rescue to move a building from Ulysses to 1427 Cottonwood Street in Seward, the future location of the rescue’s pet shelter.

• approved the mayor’s appointment of Dr. Jerrald Pfabe to the Library Board.

• approved a liquor license for Daniel Gross as the manager of the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Seward.

• approved a supplemental agreement with Schemmer Associates for the city’s trail project. City Administrator Greg Butcher said the trail is being coordinated with the Nebraska Department of Transportation, which designated Schemmer as the project engineer. The city needed to sign this agreement to allow engineering to continue.

• postponed a vote indefinitely to waive liens on a property located at 528 N. Third Street because of tax foreclosure. City Attorney Kelly Hoffschneider said Seward County instituted the foreclosure because of unpaid taxes.

Hoffschneider said the city has special assessments in utility and demolition costs for $14,484 with around $8,000 in interest. The city also has a water and sewer lein against the property for $198 with $120 in interest.

“I don’t think it’s in the best interest of the city at this time to waive any of its rights or interests in the property,” Hoffschnieder said.

He said he would do more research regarding the case.

• authorized the mayor to execute a master services agreement with GIS Workshop for the city’s geographic information system map.

• approved a job description for the municipal building administrative assistant position.
