Seward High School has a new principal as of Monday night. The Seward School Board approved the hiring of Scott Axt, who is coming to Seward from Grand Island Northwest High School.

Axt has been the assistant principal at Northwest since 2013 and was principal and activities director at Morrill Public School for one year. He has been a guidance counselor at Morrill, Mitchell and Grand Island Senior High.

He is replacing John Schwartz, who is leaving Seward after two years to be the assistant superintendent of teaching and learning for the Papillion LaVista School District.

Axt graduated from Chadron State College with a bachelor of science degree and received his administrative endorsement from CSC.

“My wife remarked how she was so impressed at the friendliness and the pride in the community. Both my wife and I grew up in the panhandle. We relocated to Grand Island in 2012. So we really enjoy the community atmosphere that Seward provides,” Axt said. “Our family is really excited about moving into the Seward community. “

Axt and his wife, Jennifer, have one daughter, Natalie, who is a fourth grader.
