CASA putting on melodrama

Southeast Nebraska CASA will present “You Stole My Seat or the Curiously Confusing Case of How to Cognominate a County,” a melodrama written by Nicholas Lee of Seward.

The play will run July 5 and 6 at 7 p.m. and July 7 at 3 p.m. in the Seward Civic Center Auditorium.

The play, co-directed by Wess Robotham, director of Southeast Nebraska CASA, tells the story of how Seward was chosen to become the county seat.

Co-directed by CASA intern Zach Pilfold and volunteer CASA advocate Codi Kargle, the melodrama features a cast of six actors from the Seward area.

The cast began rehearsals in May.

Cast members are Kendra Kristalyn, Eli Hayes, Patrick Checketts, Kyle Rojewski, Kayleah Moravec and Nicole Canning.

Pilfold said the melodrama was chosen as a second fundraiser for CASA, following the Share Your Heart with a Child benefit gala held in March. He said this particular show was chosen because of its historical background.

“It pertains to the Fourth of July,” he said, as the satire showcases the early days of Seward, Milford, Tamora and other towns in the county.

“If you’re looking for something to do after the Fourth, it will be a great opportunity to learn about Seward,” Pilfold said.

Tickets are available for purchase at Jones, Cattle and Union banks in Seward, First Bank of Utica and Farmers and Merchants Bank and Jones National Bank in Milford. Tickets will also be available at the door.
