A car accident April 5 near Waco sent Centennial High senior Doyle Trout to the hospital with serious injuries. York County Sheriff Dale Radcliff said the call came about 3:30 p.m. Trout was eastbound near 2215 Road 14, which is one mile south and 2.5 east of Waco, when his car went off the road, through a steep ditch and struck a metal power pole. He was pinned in the car, which was wrapped around the pole, Radcliff said.

Star Care was called to the scene and transported Trout to BryanLGH in Lincoln.

According to the Centennial Wrestling Twitter account (@bronco_wrestle), doctors amputated Trout’s left leg above the knee April 6. His right femur was broken above the knee but has been set, the feed said.

At 2:30 p.m., Centennial Wrestling wrote on Twitter: “Doyle now knows and is being unbelievably strong. But that is just him. He is a champ. We love you.”

Trout was a four-time state champion wrestler at Centennial, winning his fourth title in February. Coach Phil Payne said the outpouring of support for Trout and his family has been overwhelming.

“Just thank everyone who’s been praying and thinking about him for their support,” he said April 6. “It’s a tough situation, but he’s a tough kid.”

The wrestling community and friends are supporting Trout on Twitter using #doylestrong and #doylenation.

Payne said the family has received messages of support from across the country. Centennial students and their families have also been extremely supportive, and Payne said the Trout family is thankful for them.

Trout had signed to wrestle at the University of Wyoming in the fall. According to the University of Wyoming's website April 7, his scholarship will be honored.
