Seward Public Schools hires new principals

Seward Public Schools has filled its elementary and high school principal positions. The board approved the hires March 11.

John Schwartz will be the high school principal, and Jessica Dominy will be the elementary principal.

Schwartz is the current assistant principal at Papillion-LaVista High School, where he has been since 2010. He started his career teaching social sciences at Bellevue, where he was from 2003-07. He was the 10th grade Dean of Students at Bellevue East from 2007-08 and the director of secondary education for Bellevue from 2008-2010.

He has a bachelor’s degree and two master’s degrees in curriculum and instruction and education leadership from Doane College and is working on his education specialist certification.

Dominy is currently the building facilitator at Sandoz Elementary in Millard. She began her career as an elementary classroom and resource teacher in Arizona from 2000-07. She became the behavioral teacher at Ezra Elementary in Millard, where she was from 2007-09, and then was a third through fifth grade teacher at Sandoz Elementary from 2009-2012.

She has a bachelor’s degree from Doane College and has done some master’s level advanced studies there. She also has a master’s degree in educational leadership from Northern Arizona University.

They join Kevin Simmerman, the new high school assistant principal/activities director, who was approved by the board at its February meeting. Simmerman is the current assistant principal/AD at Cozad, where he has been since 2011. He started his career at Odessa Public Schools in 1994.

He has an associate’s degree in architectural drafting from Central Community College and bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the University of Nebraska at Kearney.

The board also approved the hiring of two high school counselors. Kevin Fields is currently the counselor at Milford Public Schools, and Noelle Baker is a counselor at Lincoln North Star.
