Hartmann’s tractors celebrate long history of agriculture

In addition to the annual tractor show at the Seward County Fair, visitors could see tractors and machinery from Bill Hartmann’s collection, brought out to celebrate the state, county and City of Seward’s 150th birthdays.

Hartmann, a Seward County resident, brought around 22 items of his collection to the county fair. Along with the machinery, signs were put up describing how the equipment was used and how agriculture has changed.

“We need to preserve our heritage,” Hartmann said.

Hartmann said his dad farmed by operating machinery similar to what he had on display.

“That’s kind of special,” Hartmann said.

He said growing up, he had to learn how to do things around the farm. He remembers harvest being an especially exciting time and watching the community help each other.

“It’s those kind of things you like to think about,” Hartmann said.
