Exhibition game set for May 12

The Lincoln Saltdogs will play at 7 p.m. on May 12 at Plum Creek Memorial Field in Seward as part of an exhibition game.

While Seward County has had a day at the Saltdogs game annually over the years, this is a new event in Seward County.

Sue McHugh, Seward County Chamber and Development Partnership interim membership and events coordinator, said SCCDP was contacted by the Lincoln Saltdogs about the possibility of hosting the game. The game will serve as a fundraiser for SCCDP.

“They thought it was an opportunity to get more people interested,” she said.

The exhibition game, similar to a scrimmage, won’t count toward the team’s record because it is a pre-season game.

“The goal is to get community involvement and really have an event that is different than our other festivals. We’d love this to be more than a one-time deal,” McHugh said.

The event will include concessions, a beer and wine garden, give-aways and raffles.

“We will be playing some games,” McHugh said.

Homer, the Saltdogs’ mascot and other mascots from local schools will also attend the game.

The Saltdogs will play the Sioux City Explorers.

“It’s a unique event that we’ve never had in Seward,” McHugh said. “Come out, have a pop and watch some professional baseball.”

The tickets for this game will also include a ticket voucher to see the Saltdogs take on Gary Southshore on June 19 at Haymarket Park in Lincoln, which will be Seward County night at the Saltdogs.
