Area kennel club hosts dog shows

The Seward County Fairgrounds went to the dogs last weekend as 557 canines were in town vying for various awards and prizes at the Seward County Kennel Club’s annual dog shows.

For 24 years the local kennel club has been hosting two dog shows the 17th weekend of the year, and each show has attracted some of the top canines and their handlers from across the nation.

For dog lovers like Tricia Stanczyk of Garland, it’s all about spending more time with her family.

“I do it for fun - it’s my hobby. Some people go to their kids’ soccer games every weekend,” she said, “I go to dog shows with my ‘kids.’”

Stanczyk’s “children” include Stuart, Einstein, Greta, Jinx and Taser, all Parson Russell terriers. Taser is currently the number two ranked Parson Russell in the country.

“It’s fun,” she said. “I get to see a lot of friends at these shows, spend more time with my dogs and see a lot of other places.

“My husband and I are owned by these five kids.”
