A traffic stop for speeding on Interstate 80 eastbound at the Beaver Crossing Spur in Seward County, led to the arrest of two men and the recovery of approximately $4,000 in stolen car parts.
Around 6:45 p.m. May 22, a trooper with Headquarters Troop-Lincoln stopped a green 1995 Chevy for speeding. Upon approaching the vehicle the trooper noticed an AK-47 style rifle lying next to the passenger in the car. The occupants gave the weapon to the officer. At that time, Seward County Sheriff's deputies responding to a call of a recovered stolen vehicle, missing rims and tires, notified the trooper and asked him to hold the subjects until they could arrive.
As he continued the traffic stop the trooper detected an odor of marijuana on the driver. A search of the vehicle led to the recovery of four 26-inch rims in the back seat and trunk area of the vehicle. Seward County Sheriff Deputies arrived at the scene, with a description and picture of the missing rims, matching the ones recovered by the trooper. The rims were valued at $4,000.
The driver of the vehicle, 21-year-old Marque McCatty of Lincoln, was lodged in the Seward County Jail on a charge of possession of stolen property and driving under suspension. A passenger in the vehicle, 20-year-old Daniel Marshall of Beaver Crossing, was lodged in the Seward County Jail on a charge of possession of stolen property.
The Nebraska State Patrol was assisted in the arrest by the Seward County Sheriff's Office.
