Wullenwaber takes home gold medal at state meet

Four Centennial Broncos showed the state what they could do this past week.
On May 16 and 17, Tyler Wullenwaber, Angela Naber, Jackie Ziemke and Danielle Mooney of the Centennial track team headed to the State Track Meet in Omaha.
Wullenwaber ended up winning the state championship in the long jump with a jump of 21-5.75.
"We knew that with him having to jump at 8:30 a.m., cool weather and the early morning might produce shorter jumps for some of the competitors," Coach Rob Johansen said. "He used this to his advantage by practicing in the mornings the week prior to state. That proved to be a good move for him and helped him jump further than the rest."
Wullenwaber also competed in the 100-meter dash, finishing with a time of 11.332.
"This was also another exceptional race by him coming out of lane one and finishing second in his heat," Johansen said. "Unfortunately his time did not hold up for a chance to run in the finals."
Naber competed in the 400-meter dash, finishing with a time of 1:03.097.
"This was her second best time of the season," Johansen said. "Angela has worked hard for us this season and has plans for making it to state next year."
Ziemke competed in the shot put, finishing 10th with a throw of 38-3.25.
"Getting to the state meet this year as a junior provides Jackie with some big time experience which she can use next year to help her get back to state," Johansen said. "This year's field of Class B throwers were very talented with seven of them throwing over the 40-foot mark. It had to be one of the best years for Class B girls' shot-put."
In her final meet as a Bronco, senior Danielle Mooney competed in the 800-meter dash, running a time of 2:30.259.
"It was her second best time of the year and about what she ran all year," Johansen said. "I'm sure that it's not a time or place Danielle wanted at state this year, but she always gave us her best every time she was on the track. I can't be more proud of her this year from all the great leadership she has given to the underclassmen on our team.
"She is a great example of how hard work can pay off. She will be missed by the team next year she leaves her mark in the Centennial record book."
