Skutt ends Seward's season

The Seward baseball team ended its season May 3 with a 6-0 loss to Omaha Skutt in the opening round of district play.
"There were plays we should have made and didn't," Coach Roy Wright said. "We didn't get it done."
SHS managed just three hits in the game, coming from Logan Mahalek, John Samuelson and Justin Grieser, who doubled.
Kyle Einspahr took the loss, pitching 6 1/3 innings, striking out four but allowing all six runs. Grieser pitched the final 2/3 of an inning to close the game.
     "They outworked us," Wright said.
The regular season ended May 1 with an 11-3 victory over Norris at Norris. Grieser got the win, pitching a complete game and striking out nine while walking just one.
"Norris didn't have a shot from the get-go," Wright said.
The Jays got the hits they needed and forced the Titans into errors as they ran the bases well, Wright said.
The week didn't start out so well, however. The Jays hosted DC West in the final home game of the year April 29 and lost 16-4. Seward trailed 9-0 after the second inning, and the third inning saw the Jays' third pitcher of the game.
Tyler Klotz was tagged with the loss in his starting role. He allowed six runs on three hits in 1 1/3 innings. Chase Wurdeman pitched the last 2/3 of the second inning, and Trevor Oliver pitched the rest of the game.
SHS collected just four hits in the game, two coming from Klotz.
"It was a train wreck," Wright said.
The Jays ended the season with an 8-11 record and will graduate Grieser, Samuelson, Oliver, Bobby Elwell, Tanner Smith and Andy Hoffman.
