CHS travels to Milford

The town of Milford had two visits from the Centennial Bronco track team this past week. Milford Invite On April 21, they headed to the Milford Invite, a make-up meet which was rescheduled from April 8. The girls' team finished third with a team score of 102.5. Jackie Ziemke led the way for the girls, winning golds in the shot put with a throw of 36-6 and the discus with a throw of 111 feet. Silver medals were won by Danielle Mooney in the 400-meter dash with a time of 1:05.6 and the 800-meter run with a time of 2:38.5, Melanie Erks in the triple jump with a jump of 30-11.75, Shelby Luettel in the 200-meter dash with a time of 27.3 seconds and the girls' 1600-meter relay team, consisting of Michelle Runge, Dawn Sayer, Angela Naber and Mooney, who finished with a time of 4:38.2. The boys' team finished fourth with a team score of 73. Tyler Wullenwaber led the way for the Broncos with gold medals in the 100-meter dash, finishing with a time of 11.1 seconds, the 200-meter dash with a time of 23 seconds and the high jump, clearing six feet. Zach Gruber and Shaey Kratochvil saw silvers for the Broncos. Gruber finished second in the discus with a throw of 128 feet and Kratochvil finished second in the triple jump with a jump of 39-1.5. Michael Runge and Bryon Wellman each earned a bronze medal. Runge received third in the discus with a throw of 116-9 and Wellman saw a third place finish in the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 45.5 seconds. SNC Conference Meet On March 26, the Broncos made another trip to Milford for the Southern Nebraska Conference meet. The girls' team finished eighth with a team score of 34. The meet was won by Heartland, who finished with a score of 99. Ziemke won gold in the shot-put with a throw of 38-2. Luettel brought home three medals with a third-place finish in the 100-meter dash, finishing with a time of 13.2 seconds, fourth in the 200 with a time of 27.9 and fourth with the 400-meter relay team also consisting of Tesia Brackhan, Brooke Pfeifer and Tiffany Heine. Pfeifer also had a fifth-place finish in the long jump with a leap of 15-0.5. Brackhan finished fifth in the 100-meter dash with a time of 13.5 seconds. Angela Naber finished fourth in the 400-meter dash with a time of 1:03.6. Mooney ended up fifth in the 400-meter dash with a time of 1:04.1. "Despite the cool day and light rain, we still managed to improve on several marks during the meet," Coach Rob Johansen said. The boys' team finished eighth with a team score of 27. Thayer Central won the boys' side with a score of 139. Wullenwaber was the big winner of the day, finishing with a gold in the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.3 seconds, third in the 200-meter dash with a time of 23.4 and fifth in the high jump, clearing 5-8. "Tyler had a great meet and competed hard in his races," Johansen said. Gruber also earned points for the Broncos, finishing second in the discus with a throw of 122-11 and sixth in the shot put with a throw of 40-9.5. "Those are great throws for Zach and he did not get any help from the wind in the discus," Johansen said. "Lately, things have been clicking for him in both events and he has made good improvement." Upcoming action On Thursday, May 1, the Broncos will travel to Geneva to compete in the Fillmore Central Invite. Meet time is set for 1:30 p.m.
