City Council talks agenda
Jeff Hajny
The Seward City Council discussed a new ordinance regarding the posting of agenda items during its Feb. 12 meeting. The ordinance states that council members may request that items be placed on the agenda of the next regularly scheduled meeting either by written or verbal request. Another part of the ordinance states that councilmembers or any members of the public may request an item for the council agenda or administrative action by filling out a request form entitled "Request for Council Agenda Item or Administrative Action." These forms are available at the Seward City Hall or may be downloaded from the city's website at cityofsewardne.com. The mayor and council will be provided copies of all requests submitted. The ordinance states that the notices may be posted on the following places: • the front entrance of city hall; • the front entrance of the city library; • the bulletin board in the Seward County Courthouse; and • the front entrance of the city municipal building. The council decided to put off their decision until another meeting. In other business, the council: • heard the annual report from Library Director Becky Baker regarding the financial status of the Seward Memorial Library. Baker thanked the council for its support and said that even though the library is paid for, financial support is still needed to clear space in the lower level; • approved a special liquor license for St. Vincent DePaul Catholic Church for an auction/fundraiser to be held on Friday, March 29, at the 4-H Center; • approved the hiring of Jess Vetrovsky as the manager of the Gas 'N Shop located at 536 Roberts St. in Seward; • accepted the resignation of Arlo Bower from the Police Pension Committee; • approved the appointment of Ben Hughes as Bower's replacement; and • approved the consent agenda, which included payment to Sharon Kamprath in the amount of $4,964.72 for an insurance claim; denial of a claim from Kay Rohren for property damage; and denial of a claim from Scott Maier for property damage.
