New contract means new jobs
Jeff Hajny
Tenneco in Seward will soon be able to employ more workers. The company announced on Feb. 11 that it will supply components, including catalytic converters that make up the "hot end" of the exhaust system for the Ford F-150 light-duty truck, Ford Expedition, Lincoln Navigator and the Ford Econoline vehicles. For the 2010 model year, Tenneco will also supply emission-control components for some of Ford's mid- and upper mid-size passenger vehicle lines. Human Relations Manager Mike Brown said that with this new action, there are still 25 positions open and Tenneco hopes to have about 60 new positions open by the end of the year. "There are many new potential contracts this year," Brown said. "Many will come into play in the third and fourth quarter of the year." In addition to the work in Seward, the company reported the new contract will mean more work for plants in Elkhart, Ind., Cambridge, Ontario, Canada, Ligonier, Ind., Marshall, Mich., and Kansas City, Mo. "It's always good to have new growth and new people," Brown said. "New people bring in new ideas and new possibilities arise from that. It feels good to be in a growth mode."
