CU track continues to meet national standards


    The Concordia University indoor track hit its mid season stride with the Bulldogs winning seven events at the Scott Nisely Memorial Track Classic hosted by Doane College in Crete.
     The Bulldog women had a string of three straight victories starting with junior Katie Swanson winning the 400 meter dash with a time of 1:00.42, besting second place by more than two seconds. Katie Lutmer followed up Swanson's victory with her own in the mile run, with a time of 5:22.49.
     To round out the trio of victories, Mary Lou Andrews was victorious in the 600-meter run with a winning time of 1:40.28. Also picking up victories for the Bulldog women were Jill Pfeifer in the long jump with a winning jump of 5.38 meters and Katie Werner in the shot put with a winning throw of 13.28 meters.
     The Bulldog men picked up a pair of victories. The first came when Jimmy Boeder won the 400-meter dash with a time of 52.75, with the second coming in the 4x400 meter relay when the Bulldog team composed of Adam Birt, Brady Betten, Zach Meineke and Caleb Egger won with a time of 3:35.91.
     The Bulldogs also picked up national qualifying marks from Michael Saalfeld (800), Brock Simonsen (shot put) and Derek Woods (60m high hurdles). The complete list of Bulldogs who have qualified for the national meet is as follows:
     Michael Saalfeld, 800 meter run, Distance Medley Relay; Jordan Tucker, Distance Medley Relay; Zach Meineke, Distance Medley Relay; Jimmy Boeder, Distance Medley Relay; Matt Baller, Shot put; Brock Simonsen, Shot Put; Jordan Hinrichs, Shot Put; Derrick Woods, 60m High Hurdles; Katie Swanson, 600 meter run; Christina Lark, Weight Throw; and Katie Werner, Shot Put.
     The indoor track season continues this weekend as the Bulldogs head off to two more separate meets, the Foster Classic in Kearney and the Graphic Edge Meet in Vermillion, S.D.
