A rough shooting night and an overtime loss moved the Centennial Bronco boys' basketball team's record to 1-15 this past week. Thayer Central 56, Centennial 45 On Jan. 25, the Broncos fell to Thayer Central 56-45. "They beat us in transition early and we never could recover from that early deficit," Coach Cody Huisman said. Centennial had a hard time finding the hoop, finishing 28 percent from the field. "Any time you shoot that poorly and give up as many points in transition as we did, you are going to struggle to win," Huisman said. Nate Foley and Travis Arnold finished with seven points for the Broncos. Zach Gruber and John DeWaard each added six. Thayer Central 76, Centennial 74 (OT) On Jan. 26, the Broncos played Thayer Central again in the opening round of the Southern Nebraska Conference Tournament, this time losing in overtime 76-74. The Broncos fought back from being down 23-10 in the first quarter. A three-pointer from Jamario Philyaw tied the game at 65 and sent the game into overtime. The overtime saw Thayer jump out to a lead which the Broncos could not recover. Foley led the way for the Broncos, finishing with 27 points. DeWaard had 15 and Philyaw had 10 to give the Broncos three players in double digits. "It was a solid effort all around," Huisman said. "The boys could have easily gave up when they got down by 19 points, but they fought back and played a great second half. This was an all-around solid effort." Upcoming action On Friday, Feb. 8, the Broncos will travel to Aquinas. Tip-off is set for 8 p.m. On Saturday, Feb. 9, they will head to Fillmore Central. Game time is set for 8 p.m.
