New hip-hop album a breath of fresh air

Jeff Hajny

His name may be Below Zero, but his album is the hottest new thing in the Nebraska hip-hop scene.
Below Zero recently released his new album, Head's Up, and it is definitely worth a listen for every hip-hop fan out there.
Below Zero came to Nebraska from Kansas City, Mo., and started rapping this past year.
Head's Up, recorded in Lincoln, features Below Zero along with local up-and-coming rappers E&J, orginally from Little Rock, Ark., Rome, originally from Chicago, Ill., and J-Lu, originally of Omaha.
Below Zero's new album contains songs ranging from club hits to love music to songs pertaining to growing up in the streets.
Hearing this album was very refreshing, especially with the dismal year for rap and hip-hop that 2007 was.
It was good to know that there are still rappers out there who want to write songs containing subject matter which isn't just how much money they have or won't spend a whole song talking about some cheesy new dance which will be made fun of in another three months (yes, I'm talking about Crank Dat Soulja Boy.)
I feel the strongest point of this album is its wide variety of songs which can match pretty much any mood.
The album has many different songs which appeal to a vast audience of hip-hop fans.
Fans of more hardcore, life-in-the-ghetto rap will enjoy tracks such as Belt on the Game and For My Hood, both featuring Below Zero and E&J.
Those interested in club and dance hip-hop tunes will enjoy songs such as We at the Door, featuring Below Zero, Rome, and E&J, and What You Doing Tonight?, featuring Below Zero and J-Lu.
Even those in the mood for a little loving are treated to the love song I Know Just What To Do To You, featuring Below Zero and Rome.
Head's Up appeals to a wide audience and shows people that there are still rappers out there who are willing to perform music which doesn't insult people's intelligence.
I would highly recommend this album for all rap and hip-hop fans throughout the area. It has a little something for everybody.
