Broncos head to state
Jeff Hajny
The Centennial Bronco volleyball team is headed for the big dance. This past week saw them lose in the district finals to Bishop Neumann three games to one, but they made the state field based on wild-card points. In the first game, the Broncos came back from being down 22-16 but fell 29-27. Centennial won the second set 27-25 after being down 21-15. The next two sets went to Bishop-Neumann with scores of 25-23 and 25-18. Mackenzie Sullivan finished with 22 kills and 28 digs for the Broncos. Beth Erks had four aces along with two ace blocks. Autumn Dinkelman led all setters with 25 set assists. "The girls competed hard and left it all on the court," Coach Craig Songster said. "They've proved that they're not quitters, but we've got to find a way to start out of the gates and get the early lead instead of starting behind and playing catch-up." This past weekend, the Broncos received a wild card berth into the state tournament in Lincoln. "This has been a goal of their's all season long and I'm truly proud of them for achieving this goal," Songster said. Upcoming action On Friday, Nov. 9, the Broncos will play number-one seeded Norfolk Catholic at Lincoln North Star High School. Game time is set for 1 p.m. "We know taking out Norfolk Catholic won't be an easy task, but the girls believe that they can compete and beat anyone if they put their minds to it," Songster said. "They won't be satisfied with just making the state tournament. They want to go down to Lincoln and make some noise."
