Travis Dickey, 32, Beaver Crossing, won the Wally trophy for first place in the pro class of racing at the National Dragster Challenge, Kearney Raceway Park in Kearney June 24. The Wally trophy is a coveted award in drag racing and is givent to drivers who win the overall trophy. The name of the trophy came from the founder of the National Hotrod Association, Wally Parks. Dickey was driving a black 1978 Chevy Nova and his winning time was 11.16 seconds. He started drag racing about 10 years ago and his first race was in Scribner, according to his wife, Kristy. This was his first time to win first in class and first overall. "We were so excited for him and our son, Trey, said, 'I am so proud of you daddy,'" Kristy said. She said her father, Wayne Dunker, went down to the track to shake Dickey's hand and congratulate him. Dickey's next race was to be in Kearney July 8. His photo will be in the National DRAGSTER magazine for his win June 24.
