All stars take court

Southeast Community College in Beatrice was the site of the Southeast Nebraska All-Star games June 22 and 23. The all-star volleyball game was played June 22, while the basketball games were June 23. Top athletes from schools around southeast Nebraska were selected for the teams. Those competing from Seward County were Elizabeth Hubbard, Seward High, volleyball; Sarah Bruns, Centennial High, Whitney Plessel, Milford High, and Kelly Winterfeld, Seward High, girls' basketball; and Sam Blake, Centennial, and Tyler Weatherholt, Seward, boys' basketball. All were members of the West teams. Mark Ortmeier, head girls' coach at Centennial, was the head coach for the West girls' basketball team. The West girls defeated the East 56-54 on free throws with seconds remaining. The East boys won their game 83-69.
