Graduation from high school is a time of change for young people. They are saying goodbye to many of their friends and preparing to enter a new phase in their lives. Along with this, many athletes are preparing to enter the world of collegiate athletics. On June 15 at the York College gymnasium, a group of the best basketball players from the area came together and played in the Mid-America All-Star Game. The game finished with the American Team defeating the National Team 90-87. The game featured Centennial High graduate Sam Blake on the American Team and Seward High graduate Tyler Weatherholt playing for the National Team. Weatherholt, who will be attending Doane College in Crete to play basketball in the fall, finished the game with 16 points. "This was my first all-star game. I was a little nervous at the beginning, but after a while I got rolling," Weatherholt said, "It was a lot of fun. I have a couple more all-star games coming up so I'm just gonna try to keep the fun going." Blake, who will be attending Wayne State College in Wayne to play football in the fall finished the game with 4 points. "It's always good to go out and have a good time. When the game started, I started to realize that I'm out of shape. I've been training for football and this is a different type of conditioning," Blake said, "I'm gonna miss basketball. I know a lot of the guys in this game and it's been a good ride."
