Hajny: college flew by, looking forward to working in Seward
Jeff Hajny started working as a reporter at SCI June 5.
There is a new face at the Seward County Independent. This new face belongs to reporter Jeff Hajny. Hajny is a recent graduate of York College, where he majored in communications with an emphasis in print journalism and had a minor in coaching. Along with this, he played basketball and was on the college journalism staff. Hajny also spent time as an intern at the York News-Times, where he worked as a reporter and photographer. Hajny lived in Columbus and in Wichita, Kan. for a few years, but spent the majority of his time growing up in Cedaredge, Colo., a town about 50 miles from the Utah border. While there, he attended Cedaredge High School, where he was All-State Basketball and All-Conference Choir. While there, he also wrote for the high school paper . Following graduation from high school in 2003, Hajny enrolled at Hastings College, where he played basketball and worked as a news reporter and disc jockey for the campus radio station. In 2005, he transferred to York College for financial reasons. While there, he was awarded Scholar Athlete and graduated Magna Cum Laude in 2007. "It seems like college flew by. I feel like I just graduated from high school yesterday and now here I am, a college graduate starting out in the world. To tell you the truth, it's kind of frightening how fast time can go," Hajny said. Hajny moved to Seward in the early part of June and will be working at the Independent as a replacement for reporter Theo Wiesehan. He is looking forward to working with the community.
