Michael Martin Algya, Jr., 70, Staplehurst, died June 3, 2007, in Seward.
He was born Jan. 18, 1937, to Michael Martin, Sr., and Bernice Agnes (Sakalsky) Algya in Omaha. He graduated from Omaha South High School.
He was an over-the-road trucker for 20 years. He worked for Union Pacific Railroad, Budweiser, Wilson Concrete, Hughes Brothers Manufacturing and The Garbage Company. He also owned the Starlight Bar and Grill for 10 years.
On April 10, 1970, he married Elva "Jean" (Smock) Taylor in Lincoln. They moved to Seward County in 1971.
He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 147, Lincoln.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing, dancing and cooking.
He was preceded in death by his grandson, Brandon Taylor.
Survivors include his wife, Jean Algya, Staplehurst; sons and daughters-in-law, Michael and Diane Algya, Martin and Geri Algya and Jim Algya, all of Omaha, Jerry and Deb Taylor, Bradshaw, Mike and Becky Taylor, Staplehurst, and Bret and Jenny Taylor, Stromsburg; daughters and sons-in-law, Deb and Mark Caha, Ceresco, Michele and Larry Mixan, Omaha, Roz and Bill Fritz, Staplehurst, Kathy and Garry Thompson, Lincoln, and Kelly Taylor and Bernie Juday, Menasha, Wis.; brother and sister-in-law, Joe and Nancy Algya, Plattsmouth; 22 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were June 7 at Wood-Zabka Funeral Home, Seward, with the Rev. Edward Algya officiating. Casketbearers were Bret and Travis Taylor, Jessie Martinez, Bryan Caha, Butch Manley and Jim Waegli. Honorary casketbearers were Jim Sommerer, Adrian Sima, LeRoy Stones and Gary Blake.
