Robert W. Jeary


    Robert William Jeary, 79, Seward, died June 6, 2007.
     He was born June 5, 1928, to Walter Edwin and Bonalyn Amy (Dixon) Jeary in Seward. He graduated from Seward High School in 1945. On Sept. 4, 1949, he married Eugenia Nadine Wright in Seward.
     He served in the U.S. Army overseas during the Korean conflict.
     He farmed and was a rural mail carrier for more than 40 years. He also owned and operated a self-serve dairy for 25 years.
     He was a Seward County Commissioner and served on the Soil Conservation, Natural Resource District and Seward County Zoning boards. He was a 50-year member of the Nebraska State Grange, serving as state steward for 20 years and state master for six years. He was a member of American Legion Post 125, David City, and Izaak Walton League of Seward. He was a member of United Methodist Church, Seward, for more than 50 years, where he served on many boards, taught Sunday school and was a choir member.
     He enjoyed bowling, slow-pitch softball, visiting state senators at legislative breakfasts and spending time with his grandchildren.
     Survivors include his wife, Eugenia "Jeannie" Jeary, Seward; daughters and son-in-law, Beth Eberspacher, Lincoln, and Pam and Rick McConnell, Seward; son and daughter-in-law, Clark and Nancy Jeary, Gretna; sisters and brothers-in-law, Virginia Jeary, Seward, Glema and Melvin King, Lincoln, and Genvieve and Dale Batchelder, Ridgecrest, Calif.; 10 grandchildren; great-granddaughter; nieces and nephews.
     Funeral services were June 11 at United Methodist Church, Seward, with the Rev. Eric Ford officiating. Casketbearers were Clinton Eberspacher, Austin Jeary, Chris Kenney, James Herrold, Jason LaBlanc, Alan Batchelder, Roger Wright and Larry Ficke. Honorary casketbearers were Roger Cattle, Marlin Bender, Francis Waegli, Joe Fryman, Bob Smith and his grandchildren.
     Interment with full military honors by American Legion Post 125, David City, was at Seward Cemetery.
