Membership in American Legion Auxiliary Unit 369, Garland, has reached 112.821 percent goal as of June 1, with 44 members, just five members from setting a new all-time high membership. Continued community support will bring this unit to new levels. The unit has the highest percentage of membership in District 12. Congratulations.
Across the state, units have prepared annual reports, involved school children in Poppy Poster contests, provided scholarships to graduating seniors, planned Poppy Day, participated in Memorial Day programs and served their annual dinners.
Our members are volunteers from the moment they join the unit. Junior members are signed up at birth and become active around age six. Many Auxiliary programs are adapted to the levels where younger members (juniors, age infancy to 18 years) may become involved with the assistance of caring senior members who are willing to lend a guiding hand, mentor and instruct these young ladies in what we as American Legion Auxiliary members do.
We are here to support our American Legion Post, promote Americanism, patriotism, community service, support our troops and service to our veterans. We have programs youth can participate in including Americanism essay contest, Cornhusker Boys'/Girls' State and Junior Law Cadet each June, Freedom's Foundation each March, oratorical contests each fall (U.S. Constitution), baseball, junior shooting and many more.
Members of Unit 369 Garland, on behalf of the Department of Nebraska, Department President Gertrude Johansen and myself, thank you for giving back to your community. New members are always welcomed. Join the American Legion Auxiliary today. We'd love to have you.
