On April 20, the City of Seward Drug Education Committee met at the Seward Police Department. Participants discussed strategies for making drug education resources available to all county residents.
As part of this effort, the upcoming City of Seward newsletter due to be published in early May contains important inhalant abuse literature. The committee urges all residents to learn more about the dangers of the current trend better known as "huffing."
The committee formed last year in conjunction with the City of Seward Strategic Plan. Its goal is to promote a safe, drug-free community through a plan for effectively dealing with local drug use, particularly methamphetamines, by undertaking a comprehensive drug education program.
Seward Police Chief Alan Baldwin is the committee chairman and Pam Walz is its recording secretary. Other committee members include Roger Glawatz, David Stewart, Pat Dorcey, Doug Pollak, Pat Sanley, Mark Eilers, Ed Gonzalez and Dan Berlowitz.
Participants at the Friday meeting included representatives from Seward High School, Concordia University, Seward County Attorney's office, Seward County Bridges, Seward's United Methodist Church, Four Corners Health Department, the United States Postal Service and Nebraska Health and Human Services Department.
