Seward offers superintendent job to Barnes

by Stephanie Croston

The Seward School Board voted unanimously April 16 to offer the superintendent's contract to Dr. Greg Barnes, current superintendent at Bertrand Public Schools.
Barnes said he was interested in moving to a larger district and is familiar with Seward. His sister, Lori, works in accounting at Memorial Hospital, and he stayed with her during the summers while he was working on his doctoral degree.
"I'm excited and looking forward to it," he said of the job, which will start July 1.
Barnes and his wife, Pam, have twin daughters who are freshmen in college-one at the University of Nebraska at Kearney and one at Central Community College-and a sixth-grade son.
Barnes will replace Dr. Marlene Uhing, who will become the superintendent at Norfolk Public Schools on July 1.
