Uhing headed to Norfolk

Seward schools to lose two administrators

by Stephanie Croston

The Seward School District finds itself now searching for two new administrators.
During its Feb. 12 meeting, the Seward School Board accepted the resignation of Dr. Marlene Uhing, superintendent, effective June 30. Uhing will be the superintendent at Norfolk Public Schools beginning July 1.
Uhing said the position is a good opportunity for her. She has been in Seward since 2003, when she took over for Dr. Marshall Adams upon his retirement. She will replace Dr. Randy Nelson, who is retiring in Norfolk.
     "I'm excited," Uhing said.
She said the district will need to develop a timeline for hiring a new superintendent and decide what process to use and what criteria to look for. She said she would help gather information but would not be involved in the selection process.
She said both the Seward and Norfolk school boards have been good to work with.
Since her contract runs through June, Uhing said, "It's business as usual for me."
In the search for a new high school principal, Uhing said the district had interviewed four candidates. They are being brought back for additional interviews this week, she said. The community groups gave positive feedback on all four candidates.
The Seward School Board has scheduled a special meeting Monday, Feb. 19, to announce a candidate for that position, Uhing said.
