Seward hikes fees

by Stephanie Croston

    As of Monday, Jan. 1, the city of Seward will raise its fees.
     The biggest increase comes in parking tickets, which will go from $3 to $10 if paid within five days and from $5 to $20 if paid after that.
     According to the ordinance adopted by the Seward City Council Nov. 21, $5 of each fine will be credited to the Seward Police Department "to partially defray the costs of administration."
     Other fee increases will come in registration for youth sports, swimming pool passes, accident reports, cemetery spaces, wood chips, weed notice services, and utility reconnections after working hours.
     For a complete list of fee increases see the Dec. 6 issue of the Seward County Independeny.
     In other business, the council:
     • reviewed the city's one- and six-year street plan and added a project to the six-year plan;
     • approved a special use permit for Vermass and Sons Construction to build an office building north of Pinewood Avenue;
     • authorized the city staff to negotiate the contract, scope of work and fee for a transportation study with HWS;
     • adopted an ordinance setting the 2006-07 classification and pay plan based on the comparability study; and
     • approved the consent agenda.
