County debuts drug discount card

by Theodore Wiesehan

    Thanks to a new program in Seward County, prescription drugs just got a little more affordable.
     Commissioner Ray Naber announced the kickoff of the county's new program which provides National Association of Counties (NACo) drug discount cards to all county residents, regardless of age, income or existing health coverage.
     The cards are available at no cost from county, city and village offices, drug stores, senior centers, libraries and other businesses throughout the county and offer savings of 13 to 35 percent on prescription drugs at local pharmacies and up to 50 percent on mail order purchases.
     "Using the NACo prescription discount card is easy," Naber said in a press release. "There is no enrollment form, no membership fee and no restrictions or limits on frequency of use. Card holders and their family members may use the card any time their prescriptions are not covered by insurance."
     The program is sponsored by The National Association of County Officials and comes at no cost to Seward County or persons using the card.
     The card is accepted at more than 57,000 pharmacies nationwide, including all pharmacies in Seward County.
     In other business the board:

     - accepted sheriff fees and mileage for July in the amounts of $1,391.50 and $618.30, respectively;
